Odd that when I was commuting and working the weeks seemed to crawl by but now that I am at home they zap past at the speed of light. Cannot believe that it is Friday already.
I am off up to London in about an hour or so as it is my Friday for collecting Florence from school and that is always a joy especially when she sees me and she rushes over beaming and shouting Grandma! I now stay overnight on my Fridays so that daughter and husband can nip out in the evening for a bit and have a break while I watch the slumbering children. I tend to nip up and check on them every half hour even though there is a baby monitor and Helen says it is not necessary, but it is my watch and I feel better if I check on them regularly. Yes, and all grandparents will understand why I place a hand on each of their backs to make sure they are breathing….
On Wednesday I went to a taster session of Nordic Walking which was held in a country park in the middle of Colchester. It was a warm autumn day with sun shining and perfect for walking. Very friendly bunch of people,
good instruction and have decided to sign up for a course as I really really need a bit more exercise. Bit more actually is a bit of a lie as you cannot have a bit more of nothing which is what I am doing at the moment. About 45 mins walk and my lack of fitness certainly showed up next day when I ached all over and my back very stiff and painful though I think that might be more to do with clearing out the blocked rain drains in our car park than walking. We walk in all weathers I understand so out with my waterproof and my walking shoes which still have the soil of Bodmin Moor on the soles have been dragged out of the cupboard. I shall let you know how I get on.
Started reading the Richard Burton diaries this week which Yale UP kindly sent me, it is now out in paperback, and it is riveting reading and so immediate and alive. It is a thick doorstopper of a book but I can see that I will be glued to the pages over the next few days. Hava happily abandoned several other reads to concentrate on this, one of which is the latest Inspector Lynley, also a huge doorstopper and 200 pages in but am already rapidly losing the will to live.
And, finally, to let you know that the Felixstowe Book Festival is set for the end of June next year. After some doubt the Orwell Hotel is happy to have us back so it is all systems go and I will keep you updated re speakers etc one of which will be my daughter!
Back tomorrow and over the weekend will regale you with my thoughts on Strictly Come Dancing, there's something to look forward to….
