It's cold. Very cold. The AA is on red alert, the gritters are at the ready, everyone has been asked to stay indoors, shut the doors, put on five cardigans and DON'T GO OUT. I fully expect all schools to go into shut down on Monday, trains will grind to a halt and the bus drivers will go on strike saying they need warm woolly gloves as their fingers are freezing. In other words, it is the UK going into panic mode at the thought that it might get cold in WINTER.
I should not mock, I know. There are many old and vulnerable people out there who have to watch their electricity bills and are scared to put heating on and keep warm and it is all very well to say Bugger the Bill but it still has to be paid and I don't suppose the electricity companies will have much sympathy. In fact, I am pretty sure they are rubbing their hands with glee as the temperatures plummet and their charges go up. I recently changed supplier and have a good tariff at the moment, but I am still watching the amount I use which I have never done before. I get monthly statements sent to me on line and can keep a close eye on my expenditure which is very helpful, instead of the shock horror bills I used to get in February which I dreaded.
Up early this morning as I was having a sofa delivered and was told it would arrive between '7.30am and 11.30 am' which shook me somewhat. I set the alarm so that I was up and ready as I certainly didn't want to be poncing about in my nightie and dressing gown when it turned up. Working on a weekend is bad enough for these guys without that to finish them off.
It was a close run thing getting it through the door as though it was the same size as my last sofa, it was bulkier. So pictures off walls, doors flattened against same, everything moved out way to get that extra inch to manoeuvre and success. I am now sitting on it and so lovely to have plump cushions under one's backside and to feel comfortable and supported in the neck and back area. I was sorry to see my last sofa go, donated from a friend when I moved into this flat after my divorce and had no furniture and it has served me well. A charity are taking it and hope somebody else finds a good use for it.
So lazy lolling day today and am whiling away the hours by checking the on line facility in the Daily Telegraph which is reporting on the Test Match – England v Pakistan and is one of the barmiest games I think I can remember. We bowled out Pakistan for 77 and then went in to bat and were nearly all bowled out by close of play and this was on the First Day. Needless to say Pakistan are now batting and having no trouble with our bowling at all. I have been sending in emails with comments about the match and my new sofa and they have all gone up on line and nice comments backwards and forwards. All great fun and one of the commentators said 'I love receiving emails from Elaine. It is like getting texts from my mum'.
I am now feeling all warm and fuzzy…
Am off to see a friend tomorrow and back Monday, weather and roads permitting, so have a lovely weekend everyone.
