I love Slightly Foxed and their quarterly and their gorgeous books. I have subscribed, unsubscribed and now subscribed again. I cannot seem to stay away. The reason I gave up on my sub for a year or two was that I just had too much to read, their lovely beautifully designed and interesting quarterlies were in a corner gathering dust on my To be Read shelf and after a while it all got a bit much and I cut back on mags etc dropping through my letter box. But now I am back and I STILL have too much to read but hey ho. Life is a bitch.
Now Slightly Foxed also publish gorgeous books. Gorgeous in that they are quirky, witty, amusing, great reads and they are just so nice to have. Nothing gaudy about them, nice plain covers and just the right size to pop into a tote 
bag or handbag and take with you.
As well as their wonderful reprints of all the Ronald Welch books which I have gone on about over and over again, check them out, they have Plain Foxed editions and the latest is called Terms and Conditions, Life in Girls' Boarding Schools, 1939-1979. Now this is right up my strasse and I have already started to read it and am loving it. The author is Ysenda Maxtone Graham, author of another SF book, the Real Mrs Miniver (biog of Jan Struther, NOT a nice woman at all) and after one chapter read at Random Towers it is looking promising.
"Fathers tended to choose schools for arbitrary and often frankly frivolous reasons. Hatherop, for example, was popular with some because of its proximity to Cheltenham racecourse. One girl's parents chose Heathfield 'because none of the girls had spots'. Not surprising perhaps than many of them left school without a single O-Level"
