RANDOM JOTTINGS

A blog about music, sports, theatre and rants

Once more may I thank you all for the simply wonderful and encouraging messages and comments you have all left for me under my last post and also emails received off blog.   I certainly had no intention of stopping, but just wanted to get some feedback as I felt I was getting a bit stale and repetitive, so I now feel much better about the content of Random.

I am off to Cornwall this week.   I am going to stay with James, Helen and my gorgeous two granddaughters. We are all staying in a cottage which has no wifi or broadband connection, no landline and no guarantee of a
Holsgood mobile signal.  At first I thought Blimey, but now I am looking forward to it – I will take no laptop with me, I will visit no internet cafe and I will take a complete break from blogging, tweeting and Facebooking. I think it will do me good.

I am back at the weekend and be prepared for loads of photos as I love Cornwall and am near to Port Isaac where the series Doc Martin was filmed. Wonderful series and it looked so pretty and fascinating there that I will be snapping away.

Weather forecast looks good too.    I am driving down so that will be a haul but after checking the train times, costs and taxis the resulting amount was so prohibitive I decided just to get into my little Nissan and take off.   So wish me luck.

Have a good week everyone.

Au reservoir.

I hope you are taking photos, Elaine. Ever since I stumbled on a Cornish pasty 40 years ago I’ve wondered what other culinary treasures were waiting for me in Truro or Falmouth. We have a good many towns in New England named after those in Cornwall and Devon as well as Truro and Falmouth and I’d like to explore their namesakes (Tiverton, Topsham, Biddeford, Barnstable, Bridgewater, Exeter, Marlborough, and on and on.)
    Enjoy.

Have a lovely holiday. As part of your Nigel Williams glom, I thought that you might enjoy this recent piece from the Guardian where Nigel Williams picked his top ten books about suburbia: http://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/aug/07/nigel-williams-top-10-books-suburbia?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487.
I hope that you will return with lots of new and exciting recommendations. I have just finished Anne Zouroudi’s 7 Greek mysteries following your recommendation. More of that please!

Oh, have a super time! My favourite part of Cornwall is Marazion, overlooking St Michael’s Mount, I also love the Roseland peninsula, especially the little churchyard of St Just in Roseland. Wonderful houses and gardens to see down there, too. I adore Cotehele, Lanhydrock and Antony, all so very different but wonderful in their own ways. Enjoy a Random-less break, with loads of books, and with cream teas in abundance. Cream on first in Cornwall (on the split or scone, I mean,) jam on first in Devon.

Good luck–and fair weather. I went on vacation with two of my sisters, two nieces, and my great-nieces and great-nephew. We stayed in a house on the beach in Charleston, South Carolina and it was a wonderful vacation. It was one of my favorite vacations ever!
