It is Easter Saturday and I am about to go and lay my bathroom floor which you will remember I ripped up Robert_Helpmann_child_catcher_ in a mad moment a week or so ago. Redid it last week but tiles so awful I ripped those up as well (yes I  know) so I am being lazy about blogging and have a lot to write about as well and this is turning into a very long sentence, so am linking this article in the paper today on the 10 Worst Villains in Children's Books of all  time.

Please take a look and let me know what you think and if you have any other suggestions.   I am very surprised that they did not mention the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which reduced my daughter Helen to screaming hysterics when he appeared.  Mark you, this was in the film so not sure if he appears in the book.  Sure somebody out there will know.

Happy Easter everyone….

Flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz!!! Oh, but that Child Catcher made my blood run cold, too.

Thanks Jenny – I did wonder. Having spoken to friends it is amazing how many of our children were scared witless by this character. I remember it took ages to calm Helen down and reassure her that he was not coming to take her away.

My recollection is that the book did not contain the Child Catcher. But he was a well frightening villain. I think maybe the scariest kids’ film villain from my childhood.
