RANDOM JOTTINGS

A blog about music, sports, theatre and rants

I notice that Oxford Reader and Stuck in a Book are posting book quizzes on their blogs and I rather fancied doing one myself but could not think of an idea and then a post I just left over on another blog prompted me to pose these questions on pseudonyms used by authors for one reason or another.  Some of them are very easy and some, I hope, will puzzle you a bit.  I had to check out a few of these on Google to make sure I was getting them right but I am putting you on your honour not to do this for the answers, but I am sure you won't…….

Here we go:

  1. Ellalice TateQuestion-mark
  2. Clive Hamilton
  3. Caroline Harvey
  4. John MacKintosh Stewart
  5. Mary Westmacott
  6. Currer Bell
  7. Robert Markham
  8. Mary Anne Evans
  9. Avram Davidson
  10. Barbara Vine
  11. Ed McBain
  12. Edgar Box
  13. A M Barnard
  14. Sylvia Susan Scarlett (Whoops!)
  15. Charles Dodgson
  16. James Wright
  17. Elizabeth McIntosh

Must remember to take a note of all the answers in case I forget them myself!

Please put your answers in the comments box below – no prizes but just a bit of fun.

Bit bleak today, icy underfoot and have not ventured far and I am sitting here nice and cosy and gemutlich with curtains drawn and nice smells coming through from the kitchen.  I have just made three steak and onion pies (something very soothing about making pastry from scratch), a casserole and some apple and brown sugar stewing as well.  As I have also hoovered round this morning (yes I know….) and dusted I am feeling rather saintly and the mantle of the Domestic Goddess has fallen onto my shoulders, not for long I hasten to add in case you think I am undergoing a crisis of nerves.  Listening to a lovely CD of Saint Saëns Piano Concertos am now off to make a cup of tea and read and then later on tonight, the final of Strictly Come Dancing….YAY!!

I think I know 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, & 15. No idea about the others. Wasn’t sure if we were meant to put the names we come up with in our comments.
Should no 14, be Susan Scarlett? I do know who wrote under that name.

Tales of Hoffman just now cheering the afternoon, as the snow buckets down. Biggest December snow fall in D.C (Washington, that is) on record – 25 years, or something. Thank goodness for the Met.
