Pd Sitting here watching the Olympic closing ceremony and thinking I will write as it is now coming to an end and then nearly had a heart attack and let out a shriek as suddenly there is the Utterly Divine Most Wonderful Tenor in the World suddenly appearing looking, well Utterly Divine.  I am of course referring to the ageless Placido Domingo who seems to get sexier and more gorgeous each time I see him. Oh, gosh this has quite thrown me off my stride and I will have to sit down for a minute.

OK back now.

I will freely admit to being a bit of a cynic when it comes to the Olympics and particularly London’s ability to host it well and successfully.  I have been looking at the 2012 Website recently however, and have been impressed by the plans and the sensible use of some of the sites already in London and have been thinking, well you know, perhaps we can do it after all.  This mood of optimism and anticipation has of course been brought about by the simply wonderful successes of Team Great Britain in Beijing (I refuse to call it Team GB) which had done us all proud, seems to me that every time I logged on at work and checked what was happening, we had another medal or two or three.  Succeeds breeds success and I do hope this impetus will carry on.  Two weeks ago I was saying that these Games would probably pass me by – well I was wrong and I have thoroughly enjoyed them.

I am totally overwhelmed by the staggering sight of this closing ceremony, fireworks are now going berserk all round the Olympic Stadium and it is all simply sensational.  I cannot recall seeing such magnificent opening and closing ceremonies.

However, at the risk of sounding a party pooper I thought the 8 minute segment representing the UK, complete with London Bus, was pretty dire though in all honesty they did not stand a chance against the spectacular show preceding them. I will admit to getting a bit choked when the British flag went up the flgapole and the Olympic flag was handed over to Boris Johnson who looked pleased as punch to be there.  Thank heavens it was not Ken LIvingstone.

Well, let’s see what happens in 2012.

Surely Team Great Britain is still almost as bad. Sport as a whole went to hell in a handbasket the moment the word Team started getting in front of all the others.

Well, I thought Boris was a complete embarrassment – shambling along with his jacket flapping open, what a scruffbag. I know that a lot of people dislike Ken but he worked incredibly hard to bring the Olympics to London and I felt rather sad that he wasn’t there to take the flag.
