I’m from Canada so the Globe is a little far away. However, yesterday I did go to Stratford, Ontario, to see Simon Callow in There Reigns Love – Shakespeare’s Sonnets brought to life. It was wonderful!

Margaret – yes I did watch first night of proms, got home in time and agree totally about the Four Last Songs. totally ravishing, moved me to tears, my god whata voice.
The so-called ‘new’ style presentation however had me foaming at the mouth, I may have to vent about in on blog -

That’s all very well, a trip to the Globe, but did you hear the First Night of the Proms? I switched on just in time to hear Catherine Brewer, who stepped in at the last moment, to sing Strauss’s Four Last Songs. I loved every moment. At first I thought no way could she match Jessye Norman in her prime, and for me Jessye’s rendition is beyond the stars in its beauty, but tonight’s singing came pretty close.
